Strategic onboarding programs (to be distinguished from tactical “orientation”) last for a minimum of six months and pay attention to more than burying new hires in paperwork.  Socialisation plays a key role, as does acclimation to corporate culture.  Getting new hires up to speed and proficient fast pays huge dividends.
