Cornerstone Welcomes Gen Z to the Workforce with Original Learning Series

New series of mobile-first, nanolearning content, called Digital Native Advancement (DNA), will help Digital Natives develop skills they need to thrive in the modern workplace
SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Nov. 7, 2019 — Cornerstone OnDemand, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSOD), a global leader in the cloud-based learning, talent management and emerging talent experience market, today announced the availability of Digital Native Advancement (DNA), a new series of original nanolearning courses that will help Generation Z, also known as Digital Natives, establish themselves at work and communicate effectively with their managers and peers.

By 2020, 20% of U.S. working adults will be classified as Gen Z (people born between 1990 and 1999), and that figure is expected to be even larger globally. According to Pew Research Center, Gen Z is on track to be the most diverse, best-educated and most entrepreneurial generation we’ve seen. They are also the working world’s first truly digitally native generation, meaning they can’t remember a time when information wasn’t a click away. With this increased tech-savviness comes a shift in the intersection between people and technology. In fact, 42% of Gen Zers say they interact more with their phones than they do with other people. As a result, there is a growing concern that these Digital Natives may lack the interpersonal skills required to succeed in the modern workplace.

To help organizations set their Digital Native employees up for success, Cornerstone Studios has produced a mobile-first learning series provided in a quick format that is familiar and comfortable to Digital Natives. Course topics are directly tied to professional skill development and address questions like “Is it professional to send a text to my manager?,” “How do I increase my professional clout on social media?” and “How can I best prepare for my manager 1:1s?”

With 47% of Gen Zers preferring interactive learning apps or games when learning something new, the DNA courses are tailored to mobile viewing and are delivered in fast-paced, engaging videos that are two minutes or less. Some of the featured courses include:

  • You: Online & Off: Sending the right professional message and communicating remotely

  • Manage Up!: Managing up, showing off your work and asking questions

  • Own Your 1:1s: Connecting work to business goals

  • Be Pro-Authentic: Building a professional brand and becoming a workplace influencer

  • Give/Get Feedback: Receiving manager feedback and getting real with your manager

“DNA was specifically developed and designed for the influx of Digital Natives,” said Josh Schwede, Head of Learning Content, Cornerstone. “By participating in DNA's learning path of mobile-first, nanolearning lessons, Digital Natives will learn the interpersonal skills they need to feel empowered, to contribute faster, and to ultimately succeed throughout their first year on the job and beyond.”

Some of the world’s leading organizations have already expressed interest in using DNA to upskill their workforces. In fact, in pre-release focus groups, a Fortune 500 global retailer said, “DNA is changing the traditional concepts of e-learning,” and a top accounting firm said, “[DNA] is brilliant and resonates far beyond Gen Z.”

The DNA series consists of 27 nanolearning courses that can be delivered all at once or over the course of a 12-month learning journey. They are now available as part of the Content Anytime Professional Skills subscription offering. To learn more, visit https://hr.cornerstoneondemand.com/dna.
