Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation Enhances Gift of Learning Program to Strengthen Professional Development among Nonprofits

Gift of Learning provides free training in areas of critical need among nonprofit professionals

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 16, 2013 – The Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, a nonprofit organization formed by cloud-based talent management software provider Cornerstone OnDemand (NASDAQ:CSOD), today announced enhancements to its Gift of Learning program (www.thegol.org), an online portal that offers free high-quality content – from e-learning courses and recorded webinars to business book summaries – designed to broaden nonprofit professionals’ skills.

As one of the signature programs offered by the Foundation, Gift of Learning helps nonprofits invest in the training and development of their people by leveraging Cornerstone’s learning and development technology.

With the all-new enhancements, Gift of Learning now offers customized curriculum that better supports individual training needs in common nonprofit job areas. These areas include fundraising, leadership, accounting and finance, marketing and communications, operations, volunteer engagement, and program management. Each area of focus is populated with e-learning and video courses, book summaries, webinars, and best-practice resources made available in collaboration with content providers and industry experts such as Cegos, Energize Inc., Foundation Center, getAbstract, Nonprofits Assistance Fund, Skillsoft and VolunteerMatch.

“Gift of Learning fulfills a critical and often-overlooked need,” says Jan Masaoka, director and editor-in-chief of Blue Avocado and CEO of California Association of Nonprofits. “The positive response from our network clearly demonstrates that nonprofit professionals are eager to enhance their skills, and programs like the Gift of Learning make relevant resources more accessible and available to the sector.”

Since the program’s inception in 2011, the Foundation has teamed with organizations such as Blue Avocado, the Taproot Foundation and others to make the Gift of Learning available to their networks. To date, more than 4,000 nonprofit professionals and more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations have received free access to training through the program.

“Due to limited resources and the lack of funding for human capital needs, the nonprofit sector faces significant challenges in developing, managing and retaining their talent,” said Julie Brandt, executive director of the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation. “Our goal with the Gift of Learning is to help nonprofits invest in their people so they can more effectively deliver on their organization’s mission.”

As part of the offering, the Foundation also develops content to help meet sector-specific needs. It also recently created an e-learning course with Blue Avocado’s Masaoka to help new and veteran board members better understand how to help their nonprofits generate revenue. The course, “The Role of Nonprofit Board Members in Revenue Generation,” is free to all nonprofit professionals and board members through August 15, 2013.
