DisasterReady Marks a Decade of Global Humanitarian Training
13 novembre 2023
For 10 years, DisasterReady has empowered more than one million people with free learning content to aid in disaster preparedness and response
LONDON, UK.– 13 Nov. 2023 – DisasterReady, an online learning platform managed by the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, has been empowering humanitarian and development professionals around the world for 10 years with free, high-quality online learning content on disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
Leveraging Cornerstone’s own learning management system, DisasterReady has increased equitable access to education and grown to one of the largest and most trusted professional development platforms for humanitarian and development work. With an average of 1,000 sign-ups per day, DisasterReady has served more than one million humanitarians from 195 countries who provide aid in disasters of all types, including the Israel-Hamas war and ongoing crisis in Ukraine, as well as the earthquakes in Afghanistan, flooding in Libya and wildfires in Hawaii.
“Our 10-year mark coincides with today’s pressing need for disaster readiness due to a growing number of geopolitical issues and natural disasters worldwide. In 2022, the Emergency Event Database recorded 387 natural hazards and disasters, underscoring the importance of this work now and in the future,” said Tina Bolding, Director of DisasterReady.org. “This milestone is a testament to our unwavering commitment to increasing the skills of humanitarian professionals as they prepare for the critical work they do.”
DisasterReady has a robust library of over 1,500 online learning resources in nine languages and offers free certifications and courses on a wide range of topics, including Core Humanitarian Essentials, Personal Safety and Security, Project Management, Emergency Healthcare, Psychological First Aid, Child Protection and more.
“Our partnership with DisasterReady has provided us with a solid foundation for disaster management training that otherwise would have taken us months, if not years, to build on our own. DisasterReady has helped our team be flexible and ready for anything that comes our way so we can respond and provide humanitarian aid faster,” said Mike Liontiris, Medical Director at CADUS, a Germany-based non-profit that responds to humanitarian emergencies with medical and technical support.
