Office Hours: In 2030, Expect to See AR, VR and 3D Data

Cornerstone Editors

This post is part of our biweekly "Office Hours" video series, featuring quick career, workplace and leadership tips from talent management experts and business leaders across the globe.

Software, and its influence over our lives, is growing at a rapid clip. As both tech evangelists and doomsday prophets are quick to point out, the small devices that surround us (USB sticks, electronic car keys, wifi routers—not to mention our smartphones) are millions of times more powerful than, say, the NASA computers of the 60s.

Data storage technology is shaking off its former limitations, and businesses are investing heavily in software that leverages the expansion. As just one example, the big data marketplace, sitting now $42 billion, is projected to grow to $103 billion by 2027, and will change how candidate and employee data is gathered, stored and analyzed.

Holger Mueller, VP and principal analyst at Constellation Research, is strapping in for that rapidly changing, well-funded future.

In this video, he lays down his predictions for 2030, which include the introduction of virtual reality, augmented reality and data visualization to the world of work. By 2030, he says, the software will be totally different, almost unimaginably so. "We will barely remember how we worked today, in 2018," he says.
