Office Hours: 3 Ways For Organizations to Thrive in the Era of Continuous Learning

Cornerstone Editors

According to research from Josh Bersin, principal and founder of Bersin by Deloitte, the average employee has only 24 minutes a week for the formal professional development needed to advance their careers. This time-strapped reality is creating a new norm in the $200 billion corporate training market—one that emphasizes a continuous, rather than siloed and highly-structured, style of learning.

In this video, Bersin offers three tips to prepare for the new and quickly-changing paradigm. First, he says, upgrade infrastructure: Outdated learning management systems and content must be refreshed. (As a rule of thumb, anything older than five years should go.) Second, embrace "microlearning," which uses brief, easily digestible content designed to fit into small openings in employees' busy schedules. And third, be open to new forms of learning content, such as VR and online social experiences, but don't discard traditional, face-to-face learning.
