SEPTEMBER 11, 2019

This post is part of our biweekly "Office Hours" video series, featuring quick career workplace and leadership tips from talent management experts and business leader across the globe.

According to a recent report from the Megaphone of Main Street, half of small businesses ranked hiring as their top challenge. The primary cause seems to be a skills shortage: 51.3% of survey respondents noted that they struggle to find qualified candidates to fill roles.

Carol Anderson, principal at Anderson Performance Partners, warns small businesses that they are directly competing with large corporations for this type of technical talent. In this video, she explains why small businesses should assemble a leadership team whose primary goal is to seek talent outside the organization and develop skills within it.
